Die Hessen kommen. Damit ist nicht Astralbody Albrecht gemeint, sondern
diese junge Combo, das wohl hoffnungsvollste Produkt des neuen Hattinger
Labels ATM (jetzt Treasure Hunt Records). Progressiver Power Metal mit
einem leichten Helloween-Einschlag, vor allem aber mit einem deutlichen
Hang zu klassischer Musik. So fließen selbst in eher gradlienige
Power-Hymnen wie dem knackigen Titelkracher The Fool oder Rebellion
bekannte Kassik-Elemente ein und sorgen für Schwung und Unterhaltung im
CD-Schacht. Keine Frage „The Fool“ ist ein gelungener Silberling, der der
Band durchaus die eine oder andere Türe öffnen dürfte. Legt man hier noch
zugrunde, daß aufgrund des schmalen Budgets die Produktion etwas dünn
geraten ist, steckt eine Menge Potential in der jungen Truppe. Antesten sollte
der geneigte Hörer das grandiose Wastet Lives, den gradlienigen Gassenhauer
The Oneund das schmalzige Please, survive. Mit Nachwuchscombos wie
Lightmare muß es einem um die Zukunft des Deutschen Powermetals
wahrlich nicht bange sein.

EMP – Katalog

Bei Lightmare handelt es sich um ein deutsches Quintett, das allem Anschein
nach aus der christlichen Ecke kommt. Nach 2 Demo-CDs hat man nun mit
„The Fool“ das erste komplette Album vorgelegt. Lightmare bieten
melodiösen, mit Keyboards unterlegten Power-Metal und bewegen sich
stilistisch im Einflußbereich von Blind Guardian, Bloodgood, Helloween oder
Stigmata. Klassische Power-Metal Elemente prägen das Bild der insgesamt 12
Songs, wobei das schon oben erwähnte Keyboard den Sound maßgeblich
beeinflußt. Auffallend zudem, daß man bei einigen Songs / Passagen ein
ziemlich hohes Tempo fährt. Auch der Klassik-Anteil ist nicht zu überhören.
Lightmare bieten abwechslungsreiche Songs, die sauber komponiert und
umgesetzt sind. Sänger Timon Schreiber überzeugt im Großen und Ganzen,
muß aber in Zukunft noch einige kleine Defizite ausmerzen. Ansonsten ist
„The Fool“ ein überzeugendes Debut, daß man trotz einiger
Produktionsschwächen den Fans o.g. Bands uneingeschrenkt empfehlen
kann.

Lightmare from Germany have now released their first full-length album called „The Fool“. And here we have some real heavy / power metal! My expectations with regard to this album were very great, since I knew their „Vampires“-EP-CD. I am sorry to say that I am a bit disappointed about this album. The music is too much up and down – they mix some great tuns with tunes that don’t make it at all. They lose speed and it becomes monotonous. The lyrics of the title track speak about the foolishness to trust in material things and not in God (Luke 12:16-21). The lyrics are generally pretty straightforward, even though I don’t understand the message of the song „Call From Solitude“. Overall, I am pretty satisfied with this album although I had expected more. But they have a very good guitarist and if they manage to do more songs of the same quality as „Terrion“ and speed up their music, they can go to the top. They surely have the talent for that. (3,5)

Lightmare – The Fool (released 1997 Treasure Hunt Records)
Lightmare really puts together the entire package on this cd. This cd boasts speedy riffs, double bass, and powerful clean vocals. The band has matured since Vampires EP and takes the power metal scene on with this release. Andi Gutjahr is cranking up this release with some of the finest crunch a guitarist has put to music. He expands his melodic prowess with some great melodies that stand out and form an essential part of the disc. His hooks are very good and lead into the power progression in an impressive manner. Gerd Lücking does a great job on drums. He really puts on a showcase of how power metal drummers should play. The keyboards also add another layer to the bands sound. The melodic nature of the keys adds a dimension to the band that was not as prominent on past releases. Lightmare has also written some cool songs. Tracks include Theme of Rebellion (instrumental), Rebellion, Terrion, Wasted Lives, Tones, The Fool, Call from Solitude, The One, Take a Stand, My Slowly Dying, Dungeons of Society and Please, Survive!. The themes on this cd range from natural preservation, anti-abortion, societal depravity to the more common themes about Christ. Lightmare has served up a classic power metal release that is a must have by all fans of metal. 10 of 10. Review by exact.

Lightmare – The Fool, Treasure Hunt Records

Can you imagine? Lightmare was going to play in Holland and it was said that the concert would be in Amsterdam (about one and a half hour from my hometown Doorn) between the 8th and 15th of august. Wow! That would be an opportunity to catch up with this German band of which I only had heard before but never had a chance to hear on CD or live.It would be great to get to know them, do an interview, etcetera. However, it was not known where exactly the band would play and when. So I contacted the band to find out more. I was told that I would be contacted as soon as they could tell more. At last it happened that I contacted them again to hear that concert had already taken place! But not in Amsterdam. No, they did a short gig on a seminar in ….Doorn, my hometown! That has won the Disappoinment Of The Year Award! Well, there are no hard feelings whatsoever. To make it up here’s a CD from the Lightmare guys! This is a 1997 studio-effort featuring 12 songs. Musically this is melodic metal, sometimes with symphonic leanings (Wasted Lives) and other times with power metal leanings (Rebellion). But always is there the melodic approach with thoughtful playing. Maybe this could be described as a cross between Narnia and German melodic metalbands. The production is good and I think this album will appeal to both the symphonic rock as the heavy metal audiences. Some songs would fit the symphonic category very well but it’s just with a heavier edge than most of that stuff. The approach is a bit old school but that’s okay. For people who are still/again into the melodic metal this might be the end of your treasure hunt. The good news is that the band has plans for a new studio-album plus a live-album (that would be great: If I listen to it and close my eyes and imagine that this is happening with me attending, it’s just like them playing in Doorn after all!). Okay, no more kidding.

POWERMETAL.DE

Die Frankfurter Lightmare um Bandleader und Tankard Gitarristen Andi Gutjahr haben hier eine solide Arbeit geleistet. Supergeile Melodic Powermetal Songs mit extrem vielen Frickeleinlagen gekonnt intoniert von Andi, geiles Powerdrumming von Gerd Lücking. Keyboarderin Marion Maul wird in der Regel eher für den Background Sound benutzt schafft es jedoch immer wieder Akzente zu setzen die ihr wahres Können beweisen. Aber ich fange hier wohl erst einmal der Reihe nach an:
Theme of Rebellion ist ein Gothic angehauchtes Keyboard Intro, das eigentlich einen anderen Sound erwarten lässt. Doch gleich der Opener Rebellion beweist dem geneigten Hörer etwas anderes. Der Song ist im absoluten Uptempo Bereich gehalten und auch Shouter Timon geht an sein Limit was die Höhe seines Gesanges betrifft. Kraftvoll, Schnell und trotzdem melodisch, dazu kommt noch ein ausgefuchstes Gitarrensoli von Mr. Highspeed Gutjahr.
Terrion – ein Song gegen die Umweltverschmutzung ist dann doch etwas langsamer gehalten und geht in das Lightmare Powermetal Tempo über. Wasted Lives ist vom Songwriting her wohl der schwierigste Song. Auch hat er ziemlich individuelle Backing Chöre so daß man ihn erst nach dem 3. oder 4. hören richtig erfasst. Dann jedoch kommt er umso gekonnter rüber.
Mit Tones beweißt dann Andi Gutjahr, daß er wirklich zu den ganz Großen an der Gitarre gehört. Rimski Korssakows Hummelflug, dazu noch Bach und Paganini, das ergibt eine geballte Ladung Frickel und Highspeed Einlagen.
The Fool, der Titelsong beginnt mit einem geilen Drum Intro, und geht dann über in eine absolute Powerhymne. Danach legt die Band eine Verschnaufpause mit der Balade Call From Soitude ein. Aber nicht daß man denkt es sei eine von der langweiligen tausendmal gehörten Sorte.
The One dürfte der Kommerziellste Song sein. Er erinnert an alte Helloween Tage, Kai Hansen Rulez! Take A Stand ist dann so eine richtig geile Nummer mit Mitgröhlrefrain. Ein Song der absolute Live Qualitäten hat. Dann wirds mit My Slowly Dying etwas langsamer, bevor Lightmare mit Dungeons Of Society den bombastischten Song des Werks dem geneigten Hörer gönnen. Schade, daß diese Hymne so weit hinten auf der CD versteckt worden ist! Please, Survive! ist dann doch die schmalzige Standart Ballade, dafür hat sie einen interessanten Text.
Die Frankfurter haben mit dieser CD einen Riesen Schritt nach vorne getan und soweit ich weiß mittlerweile trotz mangelnder Werbung seitens des Labels ca. 3000 Scheiben verkauft. Das dürfte schon für sich sprechen.

Pareciera Como Que Si Lightmare Fuera Una Banda Más De Power Metal Proveniente De Alemania. Es Más, Esta Placa No Alcanzó Tal Vez Demasiada Popularidad Y Ni Siquiera Se Encuentran Detalles Muy Innovadores. Pero Lo Que Si Hace Interesante A Este Disco Es La Variedad De Influencias Que Podemos Encontrar En El. El Estilo De Esta Banda Germana Va Desde El Metal Melódico, Onda Narnia, Pasando Por El Power Metal, Muy A Lo Helloween, Y Llegando Incluso A Una Especie De Música Épica Lo Que Hace A La Banda Muy Llamativa Por Cierto. Igualmente Las Influencias No Terminan Ahí, Por Supuesto. Musicalmente No Tienen Un Gran Violero, Ni Siquiera La Voz Del Cantante Es La Gran Cosa, Pero Lo Que Inclina La Balanza A Su Favor Es Los Grandes Temas Que Contiene Esta Placa Y La Base Fuerte Y Sostenida De Los Teclados. El Sonido En General Del Disco Digamos Que Zafa, Pero Hasta Ahí Nomás. Hay Que Tener En Cuenta Que Es La Primera Placa De La Banda Y Que La Producción Del Disco Es Bastante Rudimentaria, Por Así Decirlo. En Cuánto A Las Letras, Son Bastantes Poéticas Y Metafóricas En Algunos Casos Pero No Olvidar Que Es Algo Bastante Típico En Este Tipo De Bandas. Se Podría Decir Que Luego De Escuchar El Disco Quedan Esas Ganas De “Quiero Más” Pero Habrá Que Esperar, Hace Bastante Que No Se Tienen Noticias De Lightmare.

The Fool
Edguy sind längst keine Newcomer mehr, sondern fest in der Szene verankert. Also ist der Thron des hoffnungsvollsten deutschen Nachwuchses verlassen, und Lightmare stehen als Kandidat zur Krönung bereit. Schon den Opener ‚Rebellion‘ hätten Rhapsody nicht besser hinbekommen können, zumal auch der Sänger gewisse Ähnlichkeiten zu Fabio Leone nicht verbergen kann. Eine Hymne, die viel verspricht. Ein wenig zu viel, denn ganz kann das Niveau dieses Krachers nicht gehalten werden. Die Hessen sind unüberhörbar von der Klassik (und von Rhapsody) beeinflußt, was durch geschickt eingesetzte Keyboards als Orchesterersatz nur noch akzentuiert wird. Besonders beeindruckend ist auch das Instrumental ‚Tones‘ geworden. Das bei 12 Songs auf 52 Minuten ein paar nicht so starke Songs dabei sind, ist bei einer jungen Band vollkommen zu verkraften, besonders wenn sowohl Abwechslung und ein Übersong wie ‚Rebellion‘ als auch richtig viel Potential vorhanden ist. Lightmare sind im Thronsaal, und um den deutschen Power Metal brauchen wir uns keine Sorgen mehr zu machen!
